Mounting the sample
We do provide a high resolution version (up to 1600x1200) for most images displayed in this page. To view the high resolution version, simply click on the image (if it's available).
Since the refrigerator is top-loading, we need to mount the sample onto the sample holder. After mounting the sample, we can insert the sample holder into the cryostat and begin our measurement.
The long bench. The sample probe is placed on the bench. We usually use the microscope to examine the sample before putting it into the fridge.
The microscope is a Nikon SMZ800. With the help of it we can see much more details of the sample.
The sample probe. The tip resides inside the vacuum-lock tube and can be pushed out.
A detailed view. From left to right, red light LED, sample socket (this is where the sample stays) and the temperature sensor.
Another angle. The sample is already there! You can even see the 6 contacts on the sample surface. Click the picture to see more details.
